Wire short?

Trying not to repeat here but just got the bike back from the cct surgery and put her back together. Started was running a little lean so I adjusted the idle screw stalled tried to start her again almost cranked then I heard a click. Checked an replaced fuses and semi scanned wires. Now I get the lights to come up but when I go to start the bike the I hear a click and and the lights flick off for a second then back on and that's it. I have a finned RR so I don't believe it's that hoping just a shorted wire?

What does fins on the R/R haved to do with anything? In what way do they make the R/R regulate the output? In what way do the fins rectify the AC voltage into DC?

There are a bunch of people parroting the info around here that "finned" R/R's are in some way better... As the only difference between the "upgraded" OEM R/R and the older one, is that they added about a pound of metal as thermal mass, making it overheat more slowly, that's plain and simple wrong... The components inside are exactly the same, so it makes no difference at all...

If you have an suspected electrical problem, take a multimeter, and check battery voltage... If it is low, start by charging, then check the usual suspects, where the R/R is at the top of the list... Assuming something isn't the culprit is about as stupid move as you could possible make...

Fins make everything an upgrade, Tweety!

Sweet, beautiful, fins of justice to rocket that R/R out of the stagnant ancient ethos into and beyond the best that modern innovation has to offer!

Sorry... I'm just a bit cranky today...

And there has been a rash of people around here "helping" others by offering the advice that the "upgraded" R/R is never the issue, and does not need to be replaced or checked if you have an issue... Or close to it... And by now I'm fed up with the half dozen people answering the R/R questions with bad info... So, when the OP managed that all himself in his first post, it kind of set me off...

Sorry Tweety, it's just that I had a good laugh when I read your post, so,
I feel like teasing today. I understand very well what you are explaining.

I always like the answer 'Yes, but it was working fine yesterday' !
And my subtle response to that is 'Yeh well it ain't today'!

No worries... I was just cranky... Hot day, no riding... Amended that now, needed to go pick up something twenty miles away... There and back in... Well, legal speed... kinda... Well... Close to... ish... I didn't break the speedlimit on three of the miles each way at least, as that part is unrestricted... Scared the **** out of a beemer... He was doing about 110'ish, passing others... I slowed down slightly as I passed him...
