Why do I have this?

Anyone know why I have this little bottle instead of a coolant tank? I bought the bike last week and it runs like a champ and never even gets close to being hot but I do'nt know the reason behind it?

I'd say the original coolant overflow went kaput somehow and the previous owner, in a spate of creativity, rigged that up. Or he was a fanatic about weight savings. Any other oddities on the bike? I'd start looking for other examples of creative use of everyday objects.

I haven't noticed any thing else out of the ordinary. Is it safe for the bike?

If it hasn't been overheating I wouldn't stress. But keep an eye on things for sure.

Was it secured to the frame? Chances are it's safe...until your bike overheats and the bottle goes boom. Which, though possible, isn't likely. At the very least you should secure it so it doesn't bounce around, but getting a stock overflow wouldn't be a bad idea.

No it was just laying loose in the void where the stock tank was. I'll just zip-tie it to something and start looking for a stocker, thanks guys!

Better yet find a real expansion tank with this hose on the bottom and a vent on the top.
The air need to escape or it will over pressurize and blow/leak.

Since I will likely never use mine again I'll dig it up this weekend and ship it to you.
PM me your address and I'll ship it out asap.

Why won't you put it back on? What have you got on there now?

Thats just a puke tank right now. For it to suck coolant back into the radiator it needs a hose that sits inside on the bottom and a vent on the top.

If you look at the pics you'll see that there is an overflow tank but it's off a VTR250 since I had to make room for some plumbing in the bottom of the V.
BTW, I have the original tank in my hand, it's yours for the cost of shipping.

Care would have to be excersised... sometimes old owners visit... and know the screen names of those they sold to... I would hate to offend someone just for a joke...

Yeah, no kidding. Who was the guy that had pics of his front brake reservoir all gobbed up with JB Weld or whatever? He had some other fucked up stuff on his bike from the PO too. Some folks and the things they do never fail to amaze me.

I know you're working on it. No offense was meant. I posted in the other thread that we should start a new thread like this. I think it'd be funny as hell...in a demented sort of way.

At first read i thought it might be a handy/convenient way to change out the coolent to water on the track as per regulation of most tracks.. is this a possibility?
