Tire pressure
Tire pressure
I have spent some time reading up on tires in this forum, but have seen little about what pressures you guys run.
The last two crashes I suffered thru were due to bad tire gauges and wrong pressures. 1- Too much at Kershaw in practice and lowsided on the tight turn going onto the front stretch. 2- too much on the new years ride and lowsided at the top of squirrel spur in an easy sweeper.
Stick boy, the Bridgestone tire guy told me I should be running about 30- 32lbs at the track, depending on temp. When I ran that at the track, no troubles.
What do you guys run on the street? I really want to know about the Michelin tires cause I'll be getting them next.
Thanks, Rob

i always do about 2 lbs. less in the front and 4 lbs. less in the back. (i cant remember what the recommended amounts are). that seems to work really good for me. once they heat up they get up around the recommended amount.
I think lower pressures might work fine on a smooth, high speed race track. On the street I run 40r and 35f. I found running at or near max gives me better suspension compliance over freeway expansion joints, bumps and potholes. Also results in longer tire life and better fuel mileage.
race, trackday, street tires are all different. each manufacturer is a little different. it's best to talk to the track tire vendor for a good starting point.
that said.... i run pirelli dragon supercorsa SC2's
i'm normally always around 30 psi cold . a bit less if it's colder, a bit more in summer. once the weather warms to run a fast pace the rear is 2-3 psi lower than the front.
at the track: i want to see 3-4 psi change cold to hot. if i'm under i lower the psi ... if i'm over 4 psi change i add a little air.

Sheeeessss,
Some of you are riding on rocks hard tires, you really need to drop those pressures some and let the tires do the work they were designed for.
Cold Tire Pressures

Front 34-36

VTR Track Day:
Front 31-32
Rear 30-31

I run Metzlers.I've gone as low as 28 But generaly have settled on 32-36.I eat tires up and pointlessly whine about it.There was a shop I used to go to that suddenly had new owners.I was whineing again about it as they put new tires on.The tech guy said he ran 40 lbs on his race bike, all right I said i'll give it a try.that lasted maybe 30 miles,it was freaky.I suppose it works fine on his electra glide race bike.
