Time for a new chain/sprocket set, help me pick the right one from this list.

I found this list of RK Chain and sprockets.
http://www.ftmbiz.com/street_rk_honda_kits.html
or
http://street.parts-unlimited.com/8/493/4073937
But, the 1998 VTR1000F isn't listed.

Do we SH owners use one thats listed for another bike?
If so, which one?

I've used RK in the past, and have been happy with them, if someone has a suggestion for another brand though, I'm all ears.

Additionally, I was wondering if the chain guard (that runs over the chain, down the length of the swing arm) is there for anything besides making sure chain-oil doesn't splash upwards? Should I keep it there after replacing the chain/sprockets? (I'm thinking the gold chain would look pretty damn good exposed.)

Thanks!

I'll be honest here, I didn't even look at the links you posted. I'll just tell you that most chain is similar. DID seems to be the best but you'd be hard pressed to find much difference between a decent O/X/W-ring chain nowadays. As far as sprockets go, get AFAM. They are the best. Some are good (JT, Sprocket Specialists). Others just suck (Vortex).

I agree +1...It's kind of like oil, use whatever makes you sleep well at night...

Did I just reference oil?

Ok, I found this...
http://street.parts-unlimited.com/8/153 -- DID chains

But, theres a few choices.
It looks like I'm going to need to get a chain breaker, and count out the 102 links, since most of these come in 110 link and up.

I have no idea what the difference is between the 520's, 525's, and 530's.

What do I need? (I'm not taking it to the track, but I of course ride the bike as much as I can and as aggressively as I can with in the limits of the law... or something)

Thank you!

You can get the 520 if you take good care of the chain and clean and lube it frequently. It's lighter, cheaper, and has less friction than a 530.

AZZKIKER is an unknown quantity at this point
DID makes a 530 chain in 102 exact links for the VTR. I replaced my chain last year and I got the 102 link chain that way I didn't have to remove any.
