Stranded me - R/R?
Was running around today. ~77 degrees, bike was in da-zone, and then...nothing. It just died as if I had turned off the key. I coasted to a stop in a nail salon parking lot, hoping the people I just blew by didn't really think I was in a big hurry to get my nails done. Checked all the fuses, smelled all around for a burning smell. Disconnected an reconnected the battery leads, but nothing. It's as if the ignition switch suddenly turned off and is no linfer functional. Any ideas? Did the R/R pop and block all current?

IIRC there's not a built in spare but try a 30amp replacement - but before that make sure the connectors on the battery are clean & tight ;-) I had a problem where mine would stop because one of the connectors on the battery terminals had simply shaken loose.
Still best plan to get it back to base so you can work through the problem which could be R/R related

You have a dead short, most likely it is the R/R. You could test by unplugging the R/R and pop in another main fuse. If power now comes on with the key then you could prolly pull the headlight fuse (conserve battery power for engine spark and brake lights) and ride it back home, IF it is daylight AND not too far away AND the battery still has some charge left.

Yep. Ran like a champ once I disconnected the R/R and put in a new fuse. 5,100 miles on the bike, and that R/R. Sad.
I wonder how far one could get running only on the battery like that. I drove all the way to Georgia from West Louisiana with no alternator, stopping every couple hundred miles for a charge, driving a '76 VW Rabbit.
