speedo and odometer inop....confused.
I have recently purchased a 1998 superhawk. I love the bike. Previous owner installed a kn filter and jardine rt one exhaust. Felt flat due to not rejetting. I rejetted it and its a beast. Now my problem speedo and odo are inop. Trip shows 0.0 odometer shows-----9. I have checked the back of the cluster have ground and battery voltage. Checked continuity between back of cluster and vss plug. All show good with little resistance. Power and ground at vss but i am not getting the 5v reference signal. I purchased a second hand sensor on ebay same problem. I know there is a chance the second sensor is faulty but is there anything internally of the engine could be faulty. I believe the vss reads off 5th gear and i dont have any trans problems. For what its worth since it seems to be the go to repair it has a new battery and r/r. Any help would be appreciated
So the guages worked fine before rejet but not now? Check all the connections and fuses including under seat behind tank. Do the turn signals display on dash? What abuout hi beam, etc?
If it recently worked it shouldnt be a big deal. Who did the rejet? You or a shop?

Have you followed all the wires in the 2 connectors for the dash? Maybe some are corroded/ not contacting? Also check the connections to the black boxes in the tail section.
You can get the wiring diagram in the repair manual to see which colors do speedo and tach. I think connections are most likely the culprit. You have to remove dash, windshield or both to get a good eye on the connections.
I mention the black boxes (cdi or whatever) because my tach went out and after driving myself nuts with diagnostics (and installing an aftermarket tach) I had a Honda stealership test the box and that was the culprit. In all fairness it failed after an errant drill bit went through the wiring harness on the tail. (dont do that)
