Speedo gone, would appreciate help
Speedo gone, would appreciate help
Hi SH forum,
I was riding the other day and my speedo went out for about 10 miles. Came back for a bit, but a few days ago it went out for good. I looked in the manual for speedometer inspection, but the wire colors were all different than what I have (mine are black, pink, and green). Does anybody know what the proper voltages are and where I should see the 5v pulses?
Thanks,
Nathan

Welp turns out the colors of the wires on my bike match those on the diagram, just a little user error. I checked the voltage again, and I get a constant 5v across the sensor wires instead of pulse 5v. Could this be a bad sensor?
likely yes it’s the speed sensor
it’s a pretty “dumb” as in simple system
If you have correct voltage but not pulsing with the transmission rotation pretty much has to be the sensor
id remove it, make sure the end is clean, check for signs of damage reinstall and see if it corrects the issue.
More common with dead speedos is no voltage due to wiring problem or the cluster itself is damaged
the sensor does not fail all that often on this model making a used part a pretty safe bet
Fixed!
Bought a used speed sensor off ebay and got a pulse! Speedo alive!
It's weird that the sensor failed though. I hope this isnt a sign of a deeper underling issue, maybe with the R/R. I think mine has the finned model, but I never checked. Either way happy riding everyone!
