Should I occasionally use a carb cleaning additive?

Having rebuilt a couple of sets of old motorcycle carbs because they had gummed up, I'm wondering if I should occasionally add a carb cleaning additive to my tank to keep my Hawk's arteries clean? Car experts recommend additives such as Chevron's Techron for fuel injected cars. I'm thinking about putting a half bottle in my tank at every oil change. What do you think?

Can of worms opened,

lol.....I am not mechanic, hell I can barely spell it.....But I like SEAFOAM....only need like a few oz in the tank, and you can add it to your oil as well....Lots of folks swear by it.....I use it every few tank fulls of gas.....

Course I am sure that there will be many opions on what to use and how often....

Carbs typically gum up from sitting for months with stale gas in them.

I've only had one carb failure on a running motor. It was due to stuck floats and that was on an 100k mile 84 civic 1.3L with a single carb.

A little Seafoam in the gas tank at every oil change wouldn't hurt.
Will clean up any condensation moisture in the tank & carbs.
May help clean the intake valves too.

Techron is the obvious choice and IMHO has a better formulation than Seafoam. You can read the MDS sheets for both. However half a bottle is way too much. Use it as directed.

However you probably don't need it if you always use good gas and don't leave it sitting for more than three months.

I wouldn't say half a bottle is way too much since Techron claims a proper ratio of 1 ounce to 1 gal. of gas. But I agree that it would be too much. You would want to add about 5 oz. to your tank and then fill it up. If you have a 12 oz. bottle of the Techron that would be approximately half a bottle. If you had a 20 oz bottle then, yes it would be too much.

I agree that Techron is the ****.
