Shim-shim-how many?

Thanks for all the posts to get the carbs set up right. What I am confused about is how many. If I remove the front shim do I then shim two washers front and back to get the .03 front and .04 rear?

Every bike will be slightly different hence the reason that Hawks carb thread is a baseline setting. It will get as close as possible but will not be spot on. You have to take into consideration any mods/alterations that you have made to the bike and the conditions that you ride in ie altitude, temperature and mechanical wear.

I suggest you have a read up on the Factory Pro Carb tuning guide as it will give you a better understanding of how to tune these carbs and judge whether you need to go richer or leaner.

[edit] sorry misread your post[edit]

If you remove the standard shim from the front carb that's already there, and leave the standard one on the rear, you will get the variation in height that is required. Then shim as you feel is appropriate.
