Seal behind drive gear.
There is a seal behind the drive gear. It has a rubber coating on it. Out of this is a slined drive shaft where the front sprocket attaches. Mine has a hole in it and oil leaks out slowly.
Does anyone with a shop not service) manual know if this seal is easy to replace? Do I have to split the case to remove it?

Re: Seal behind drive gear.
Just pull the countershaft sprocket , make a hook tool to pull the seal out and using the old seal along with a socket of the near same OD drive the new one in . Easy as that .
I would though make certain the case surface is clean and use some locktite blue on the new seal soley as a lubricant to help slip in a bit easier .
Thats a high heat area and the seals take a hit . Synthetic oils usually run 20 degrees cooler than dino so over the life of the bike the potential for all engine seals in dynamic operation to last longer are better to a degree with synlubes in the motor from day one .
