Proper factory exhaust mount?
Proper factory exhaust mount?
Hello,
Could someone out there please swing me a close-up pic of how the factory exhaust mounts to the rear stay? I'm talking about the stainless tab that is welded onto the top of the can.
My bike came with an aftermarket exhaust. I am trying to figure out:
I would really appreciate any help.

My bike came with an aftermarket exhaust. I am trying to figure out:
- Whether the factory cans are supposed to hang inside or outside of the rear stay
- Where there should be washers
- If the spacer that came with them is superfluous on the factory exhaust
- If the bolts that came with them are over-long
I would really appreciate any help.
Here ya go.

Awesome, thank you so much, that's exactly what I needed.
I did not guess that that was where the spools go (I called them 'spacers' above). Anybody know what function they serve? Tie-down points? Or do they have some magic effect on how the cans are suspended?

I get that, I just think it's weird that a fairly standard bolt would be coupled with an apparently custom spool into a single "part" for ordering's sake. It seems arbitrary to couple these two but not the nut and/or the washers, and/or the collar.
Honda wisdom. They know you'll ditch the tie down for the cool factor, then be fucked one day at carlisle when you find a full M4 system and can't buy it for $100 cause you have no way to bring it home. And they also have a system on their cars where the engine slows down if you let up on the gas. Yeah, they've thought of everything.
I didn't notice this before - Marquez's photo is in conflict with the factory diagram. In the diagram, the order of parts (for the right side, outside->inside) is:
In Marquez's photo, it's:
Can anyone confirm which is right? I have to say that Marquez's photo looks right to me geometrically, although it doesn't make sense that the nut would be directly up against the muffler hanger. However, FWIW, I imagine that the insert and washer could be reversed easily, and it could simply be a case of the washer and hanger being in the wrong order.
