Power issue from HELL.

Ok, first off Good afternoon gentlemen and Ladies. I appreciate all the input the community has to offer along with the vast knowledge of our senior hawk forum members.. Enough with the pleasantry's.. I have an issue that has crawln under my skin. I have a 2000 Vtr with the basics. "k&n, pair removed and 2 bros. exhaust. other than that its stock. Over the weekend I was on a ride and watched all my gauges zero out. like there was no power. once I shut the bike off, look under the hood?? tried to restart the thing and nothing.. OK no worries, I whipped over the the Walmart and picked up a new Battery, the one that was on the bike was 4 years old.. installed the Battery, and threw it on my tender for a day or so, she fired right up and had ample life in her. today I was on my way home from work and the same damn thing occurred.. I am clueless as to what could be draining the power OR if there is something technical that I am missing here that would cause this to happen under normal operation.. any thoughts would be welcomed.. Thanks

Sounds like a classic R/R failure. It's probably burned out. And not charging your battery. Time to upgrade to a MOSFET unit! Check tweety's thread...

Yep, common failure and classic symptoms.

Mine just started doing this The R/R was replaced by the previous owner, I had assumed it was a MOSFET unit...
Bike seems to be holding a charge (guess I'll find out today, it just started this on the ride home yesterday), and it seems pretty intermittent, anything else that'd cause this?

Post Edit:
Went out side and while warming it up, the (speedometer/tach) gauges would bounce and lights would dim. Guess it's time to replace the replacement R/R. I live across the street from a dealership, going to see if they have a MOSFET in stock, would be nice to have this fixed today.

Yeah we need to have some kind of hand-out we give to neophites so they can garner a baseline knowledge of the universe.

Like, these are the wheels, gas goes here, and the RR & CCT things. I wish I knew when I was green around here. Woulda saved me 3 miles of pushing the beast in 99 farenheit degrees. (uphill, against the wind and with my wife riding on it)
