Power to coils

Power to coils
The guy I got it from from converted it to the kind of coils that sit on top of the spark plugs. I took the connector off of the coil and put a test light on each of the wires and turned the motor over. Am I correct in thinking that the system should be sending power when the motor turns and that the light should flash?
I'm thinking there's no power getting to them.
