oil in hawk...missing shifts

Hello everybody, I have a question! When I start my engine I let it to warm! In about 2-3 minutes I go to ride it! in about 30-40 de km the shifts of 2 nd gears is very ok, then when the wather temp is at the middle the shift of the 2nd is harder and from time to time is getting in to neutral! My oil in MOTUL 300V 10w40 double ester! What is the problem?

Merlyn, how's the riding weather in Romania? Hot here in FL

My guess is it has nothing to do with your oil, but to prove that to yourself change the oil & filter and see if it helps or not. If not you likely have a bent gearshift fork:

I dont understand why the 2nd is changed perfectly until 10-15 minute in trafic condition! I think the oil is to thin!

Try Honda GN4 10w40 - I've found that to have the best shifting on my bike. As always, your results may vary.

For those temperatures I use the next grade of oil. It gets that hot in Australia regularly. It may not be the problem with your gearshift, but it will be better for the engine I think.

I am using a 20w-50.

Check your manual, it will list the oils suitable for the temperatures.

I heard 20w-50 is more for racing, because it performs better at high temp and high speeds, and wouldn't be as suitable for everyday riding.. Am I right? im about to go to the store and buy some 10w-30 Rotella for my 98 SH. 10W-30 is suitable for everyday riding with occasional high speeds right? i had the same in my 92 Katana 750FN

I don't think I'd ever use a different viscosity/weight than recommended in my bike, too risky but I guess that could be my mal-knowledge in oils.
I stick with the manual's 10w-40 recommendation.

I've run Honda 20w-50 for 11 years. Never had any shifting issues. I doubt you there is any issue . That's why their a multi weight oil. If I was winter riding, I might consider 10w-40. But I think I would be more worried about frostbite than whether the 20w-50 wouldn't lube the engine/transmission.

+1...I've run Honda GN4 10W40 since I bought my bike new in '05. Over 40,000 miles on her now, and I've never had a problem with 2nd gear shifts. Even when the air temp has been over 100F and my coolant was hitting 235F in traffic.
