New member and bike

Hi,
New to the forum, so I just wanna start by saying hello to everyone. I just bought an 04 VTR with 38 000km on it, it's pretty clean and comes with hindle pipes but I have not installed them yet. I took possession of it today, and was looking it over and cant get the seat open...The seller showed me how last week but I as usual I wasn't paying much attention, too distracted by the purchase. So can any 1 help me out with this? I don't wanna force it and break something...

Thanks!
Mat

Hi there ..

Welcome, and gratz with your new bike ..

Lift up the seat in the back, and at the same time grab it in the front and push backwards - You'll get the grip of it soon

Welcome, my seat catches sometimes as well, with the key turned on the trunk release grab the part of the seat that your right thigh sits on and pull back.

Use the key to unlock the seat (at the back of the bike) and while turning the key pull up and back from the front part of the seat.

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys, I managed to almost get it off...the right side is free but on the left side the hook doesnt seem to want to come of the lock, to free it, it seems I need to push it down a bit, but it has a mind of its own! I'm going back in the garage to figure this out (the shame!).
Thanks again,
Mat

And another question, the bike came with the stock cans installed, but he did give me 2 hindles with it. I looked on youtube for a clip but didn't find any. Do they sound better than the stock exhaust?

Thanks again everyone!

Changing the pipes seems pretty straight foward. I'll try them on this weekend. I'll definitively consider an aftermarket seat, with all the miles I will be covering and some of the reviewes I read. Do you know any other brand aside from Corbin? My search didn't yield much results.

Corbin and Sargent are the ones to look at. Sargent is said to be more comfortable, and the Corbin is available with a backrest for the passenger.

But you can adjust the clips and hooks on the stock seat to make removing it easier.

I know I should have searched for the answer, but to be frank, I really tought I was the only 1 too dumb to figured out how to open the seat .

Don't worry... Your never alone when it comes to dumbness...

I'm pretty sure you won't notice any movement if you file the hooks a bit... I got fed up with them a long time ago and just took them off... My seat isn't moving about any that I can feel...

Thanks! I feel a bit better about myself knowing I'm not alone! I'm going to give it a try right now. Clumsy as I am, I'll make sure to only grind a little bit off at a time.

Thanks again,
Mat

Does this look normal to you? Or should it be symmetrical? On the left side the fairing is touching the frame and on the right side there is a small gap.

Um... No, not entirely... There could very well be a difference, but that much suggests that the front fairing stay might be a bit twisted... It's the elk horn thingy holding the gauges...

It's really nothing to be alarmed about, if the bike looks to be repaired in an otherwise professional manner it should be fine... But it does suggest that the bike may have been down sometime earlier in it's lifespan...

I'd start by loosening up all the bolts and wiggling the fairing to make sure it's just not ill adjusted at the bolt holes, but with that much difference I doubt it...

I'll try to unbend it this weekend while changing the exhaust and spark plugs.

Looks like your fwd fairing bracket is tweaked... between the headlight and gauge cluster...

It can be tweaked back.

Alrighty, just got done fixing the fairing, it was pretty easy, I just bend it back the support to its original position and voila! I've also installed the Hindles, but the clamps for the stock exhaust do not work on them. The hindle slid right over the header, and is not air tight, so I was wondering if I should use a smaller collar although I'm not sure it will work since the end of the pipe doesnt have grooves on the end of it like the stock unit. Should I put exhaust sealant in there?
The first 2 pics are the new exhaust and the last 1 is the stock with the grooves on the end.
Thanks again,
