New to me 98 Hawk (Where to start)

Hello Everyone,

I purchased a bone stock '98 with 31000 miles and no service records or owners manual (and some damage) on wednesday . I have performed a safety check and all seems ok. I need to change the oil and filter, spark plugs and drain the old gas. What plugs are recommended. What oil is recommended. The engine sounds good, no strange noises. It is a little slow to rev but I am not used to a V-twin. Any suggestions on other items to check? How about a manual? Sorry about all the questions.

Thank You,
Matt

Weclome, I'll tell you the same thing I tell all new guys.

GIVE ME PICTURES!!

I'm confused. You said it's running good but you need to drain the old gas and replace the spark plugs. Is there something else indicating that this needs to be done?

Just make sure and check the tires, chain, and brakes real good before getting out to test the limits of the V-twin.

It stumbles when I crank the throttle. I haven't ridden it yet (it's been raining since I brought it home) and don't know how old the gas is.

The flames are pretty cool. Is that a Chevy LUV in the background?

No, that's an 84 Rabbit GTI. It is an SCCA race car in the ITB class (waiting for a new roof and updated safety equipment).

Recommended plugs: stock (also in the IFAQ on my site)
Oil: any non-energy conserving oil. Mobil 1 15w-50 is my choice.
Manual: link is on this site. Do a search.
+1 to Drew's comments.

Bone Stock SH

That's Wierd My 98 SH didn't come stock with an undertail kit, flush mount signals, and different grips? I got ripped off. Just giving ya a hard time. Looks like a nice bike. It has been raining here on and off for the past week so very limited ride time as well. Good luck with your new project
