need new engine/rebuild

So I am in need to a new or rebuilt engine or one with very low miles.
I dont want to get into the details of what happened. How much does it usually cost to have an engine rebuilt? Who are some sources for crate or already rebuilt engines? Also, I have been looking on ebay but have not seen anything as of late.
thanks for the help guys.

Ebay is your friend on this one, brotha. Keep looking. Parts and labor for a rebuild at a dealer will likely exceed the price for another used VTR. There's a guy selling a motor here (apparentloser) but I'm not sure on the miles.

I've had good luck here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-...mZ120336648271

I know for a fact that a good mechanic will charge you up to $2K to do a good warranted rebuild not including parts...

Good luck,
RC

Hey, you're here almost in the neighborhood. My brother lives in Atascadero.

Is your engine rebuildable?

I can do a rebuild for you for $800 + parts, plus a few bucks to meet you halfway for pickup/delivery. It will help offset the cost of my project.

Price includes a 3-angle valve job, and a spreadsheet of all verified measurements. I have a set of almost new pistons, if you need them ($50). I will install new main, rod bearings, new rings, new gaskets and seals and let you know what you need to make it right.

I guarantee it will run like a champ and last a long time, if you take care of it.

Now that's gotta be the deal of the century!

I've spent that much just on tools alone

Low overhead...

I don't do it for a living, and I'm not feeding my family with it.
But I've been throwing $100 bills at my bike, like a stock broker headed for Mexico.

I don't need the money, but it would help to offset some of my cost. I would have no intention of skipping important details in the interest of profit. It's not about that.

Now that's a deal... If that engine is rebuildable, you won't find a sweeter deal...

Jump on that **** for sure! It will help the resale of the bike to have matching frame and engine VINs.

Thanks for the offer of the rebuild but the wife said now is not the time
I will be pulling the engine out of the bike and take off the head to see how bad things are. I will keep you all posted.
THanks,
Ken

Well, now that you've got us all on the edge of our seats and it looks like you have extra time on your hands, mind telling us what happened?

PS Were you riding before you got married or vice versa.

I was riding the bike and all of a sudden I heard what i believe to be the front cylinder timing chain break.... I killed the engine ASAP and coasted to a stop. I think the front cam chain tensinor let go. I was planning on having them changed that week. I only had the bike like 3-4 months and it has 30k miles on it. So its been sitting for months because I am not mechanical.... thats my story and I am sticking to it.
