Need help!!!!!

Well today started off real well, i woke up jumped on my bike and she started flawlessly. Rode it all day, about 300 miles. I got to the hospital to where my brother and his wife are having there baby. At this point i am real excited! The weather finally broke from all this rain. and it was absolutely amazing riding weather. Well i was visting them and me and my girl decided hey lets bring back my bike to there house because its going to be real late before we get outta the hospital. So i was like cool sounds good. Went to start my bike and there was the problem, it wouldnt start. So i was like Hrmm, new battery and it started everytime all day. So i thought i might have left an acessory on and drained my battery. So i put it into gear and jumped it. it was sounding a little funny but i was like i am just paranoid as always. So i rode it to my bros house and put it in his garage and shutt it down. Just to make sure it started like it has been doing all day i hit the starter button, nothing but a zapping sound came outta the bike. So i took off the seat and it was like a sudden heat wave had struck. Opened up the battery box and seen smoke, i was like wtf

So the question is what would smoke the battery like that?

Failed R/R. Sorry. Man, this seems to be a common thread lately. I've never had a single problem with mine. Just last year I replaced the ORIGINAL 1998 battery with another maintenance-free Yuasa from the dealership.

[edit] On second thought I think you just might have a bad battery. That much heat I think is indicative of an internal short. Get her running again and check voltage at the battery just to be sure. Should be right at 14v at 3000 rpm.

Sgt Rock is an unknown quantity at this point
sounds like a failed R/R to me but I'd double check the battery also
