My flush mounts melted....

Wired 'em up, they worked great so I went for a ride. Few minutes into it I smelled burning plastic but didn't think anything of it since it went away.

Two hours later when I got home I looked at them and the lenses had glazed over brown and they were HOT. Like blister on my finger hot. Luckily they didn't melt the plastic on the fairing at all.

Anybody else had this issue? Do LED's have the same problem? I'm thinking of going that route next.

These are the ones, the price should have clued me in I guess.

What caused it to burn out? I'm assuming you have high mount exhaust and you're speaking about the rear signals...

Are you sure you had them wired correctly? I put a set on the night before we rode up to Laconia, and in my rush, wired the bright/turn filament (there IS a difference) to the running light wire. On the way home I noticed one side was out, and by the time I got home both were out, and melted. The next day when I looked into it further, I noticed my mistake. Two friends have had the identical signals for well over a year and have had no problems. At least they're cheap.

Yeah, I used the wiring diagram in the manual to figure out which was running and which was flasher. I matched that up with the instructions that came with the lights. I even tested them both ways before I finished to make sure I had running on the dimmer filament.

drew_c14.
I went through the same issue with the same flush mounts. Melted off on both sides after a 15 min ride or so. Ended up calling and emailing the seller for a refund, eventually I was issues a refund. Bulb jsut gets to hot for the plastic screw mount.

I ended up going with the LP series4 med. had to cut the "inner fairing" a bit, but they seem to work, but quite dim.

Most LEDs don't get hot at all. Some of the new 1.4 ampers do though and need a heat sink. They'll make you see spots real quick too.

I'm still runnig those same flush mounts with no issues. The only explanation (thta I can think of) is that the running/turn wires were crossed.

After installing manual CCT's i almost melted my left flush mounts. Had the wires switched. Swapped them around and no more problems.

I tried them both ways, one way gave me brighter running lights and the turn lights on the dash stayed on all the time plus it turned the rear into running lights as well. So I figured that was the wrong way and hooked them up so none of those things were happening.

I think that means I got it right...

Could have just been bad lights, or maybe I somehow screwed it up.
