You have to change pistons to use them. http://www.megacyclecams.com/catalog/catalog.pdf

Damn...too much work..when I brought my SH..the guy threw in a brand new set and I was wondering if it was worth the trouble. Guess I am going to sell it on Ebay.

I bet you can get more than that for those cams. Do you have specs for them?
I'm skeptical about those Megacycle specs for the stock cams. I would like to see corroboration for those numbers, especially the stock exhaust cam duration. Anybody ever measured the stock cams?

According to the sheet that came with the cams and the specifications on their site, it is as follows:

VALVE LIFT DURATION AT .040"

In .450" 280°
ex .435" 272°

it says you should use Race profile - modified pistons and springs in conjunction with these cams.

"$569.00 Hardfaced cams set of 4 on customer cores." Whatever that means.

I am very familiar with Mega Cycle racing cams.
I have them in my EX500 race bike.
They take the stock core and add hardened material then reshape them to the spec's they want.

With the racing specific models if it says springs and pistons are needed they aren't kidding.
It's usually because the timing and duration put the valve very close to the piston, and any float at high rev will result in a collision.
Racing pistons usually have a deeper cut to accomodate the valves, but a higher crown for higher compression

I don't recomend them for street use. They will definately add power to the top end, but will narrow the power band, and torque curve.

I have to ask has anyone tryed to just put the exhaust cams in place of the intake
In .400 lift 249 Duration
Ex .435 lift 272 duration.
What if we just used 4 Ex Cams to bump up the intake side with p&P heads with good valve job and stock valves, JE 11.5 :1 pistons. Just asking becouse I am in process of doing my 99 hawk right now as a winter thing. Got set of heads of ebay with cams, valve covers, carb rubers. $65 with shipping I love ebay. Thanks everyone on this forum you have saved me lots of time with my hawk. have done many of your mods made hawk much better. One other thing V twins rock like driving a big block mopar or having a good woman just makes life better.

I'm not sure they are timed properly to be used as intake cams. You would probably have to manually degree them in. Other than that I don't see any reason whey they wouldn't work.

I had wondered the same thing since I also have an extra set of heads and cams. I installed the JE pistons and ported heads, but just went back with the stock cams because I don't trust those specs for the exhaust cams, which are lifted from the Megacycle catalog. I can't say for sure since I didn't measure them, but that duration spec for the exhaust cam doesn't look right and it doesn't match the specs given in the Honda manual; in the Honda manual the duration specs for both cams are identical at 245 degrees at 1mm lift.

Sorry Calitoz not trying to hurt your sale of cams. You can shoot me a pm with how much you want for them. In middle of deciding what to add with the JE Pistons when apart. I noticed with the cams in my hands that they are closer than 35 thousands in lift. Had cheep mic and was getting a 5-8 thousand diff. but the duration is clealy longer by the eye. not neer as steep on exhaust

So this is what I found out on the stock cams. I put a dial indicator on an intake valve and tested all 4 of my stock cams. They are marked as in & ex then a FR and RR. I am thinking they are used on v4 also. Lift is
in.388 & .385
ex.390 & .393 on used cams.

Then I marked cam gear at .40 for open & closing of valve ex & in where the same at around 246 deg. Using a protractor to get values.
As long as u use a rr or fr they are the same lobe position on gear. So I do not see why you could not use exhaust in place but you only would be gaining small amount of lift. Again these where used cams from ebay and the lob frailest away from cam gear was used.
