is it just the way of the hawk or what ????

i did a carb sync AGAIN ,,i got the merc dancing as close together as i think it's gonna get ,,,i smoothly throttle it up to 4k rpm per hawkriders suggestion and the merc is still fairly close ,i mean it moves a little off but not by much ,,,and it does seem to idle smoother but still at 3k rpm just puting around i still get the hic-up ,fart ,hic-up ,but it's really not intermitent ,it really hic-ups and bucks ,,i don't know how else to describe it ,it's almost non-ride-able on surface streets between stop signs and lights because of this ,,,Driving me frickin' crazy ,,any suggestions on what to try next ????????????????????

Beat me to it. Good questions. Add HOW it's jetted?, 'cause it sounds like a jetting problem not a carb sync problem to me.

I had what sounds like the same symptoms until I went back to the OEM filter and got the jetting right.

It would be easy to remove the rear cyl carb top to see if there is aftermarket needles in there.

Yeah, guy. You'll need to open the airbox to see for sure which filter.

You gotta open the vacuum chambers to check the needles. And then flip the carbs over, remove the float bowls and read the numbers stamped on the bottom of the main jets.

Either that or pay somebody to do it. No other way to know what you got.

I don't know if it's been rejetted or not ,I was thinking about yanking the carbs off tomorrow ,,what should i look for to know if it has been jetted ??????

What are you doing riding it around town. Get it up on the 74 and the 243.

If you have a stock filter, throw it in and see if that helps. Also, is the EVAP removed? That may give a small improvement.

Riding through Hemet on the way to a 2 day stay in Idyllwild on a Friday afternoon last summer, my temp gauge hit 235 degrees. Great weekend riding though.

But I understand your frustration. Hemet is one traffic light after another.

zmaniv and RK1 already mentioned the easiest way to tell but to expand on their answers,

Pop the black cover off the rear carb. carefully pull off the diaphragm/slide assembly, take one of the screws that held the cover on the carb and screw into the nipple in the center of the slide assembly and remove the nipple. The mixture needle resides under said nipple. Inspect the top of the needle: the number of grooves on the top of the needle will tell you, if it is stock or aftermarket. Stock has only one groove and aftermarket has....

There are a couple of threads that cover the procedure in better detail but that will get you started.......
