I need a new clutch what do I need???
I need to replace my second gear and I know since I have 16000 miles on my 2000 hawk that I should replace my clutch. So what do I need to replace the clutch is this all http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...awk-Parts.aspx or is there more???
ok so those will work??? and then I should add http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...awk-Parts.aspx and then thats all
Are you sure you need to replace the clutch discs? A clutch that's not abused can last a LOT longer than 16,000 miles.
Changing clutch discs is a pretty simple job and can be done any time.

ok so the more i read i am seeing that I may have this bent shift fork problem as I have the popping into nutral from second gear. But as much as i have read on the subject its not clear if I am replacing second gear still or just the shift fork, dog, and drums????????????????
Not sure on the replacement, but have you checked the linkage? I had a similar problem when I put my engine back together - I had the bottom of the shift arm facing too far forward. When I would shift to second gear it would engage 2nd briefly then immediately pop back into neutral as soon as I got back on the throttle (not engaging fully). I'd try shortening the throw before ripping into the engine.
+1 on the linkage adjustment. Try this FIRST.
I'd also say that replacing the superhawk clutch is a little more involved than many other bikes. You have to drain the coolant, which means removing the right side fairing which for me meant removing the entire front end as one piece as that was easier in the end. You also need to take great care when replacing the engine cover because if the waterpump impeller isn't properly aligned, you can snap it right off (BTDT!).

How about the type of plates he's looking at? I've seen some EBC plates that sound pretty good as well as the Vesrah ones. Any other suggestions?
Oh, and good call on the linkage solution. I have the same problem, so i'll give 'er a try once i get the chance. Thanks!

I thought I needed to replace my clutch and did at 23k.. put Barnett springs in there too. I was fairly tough on it due to lots of track days, but when I pulled the old clutch plates they didnt look worn at all, I was shocked.
Does it slip? Springs might just be the answer. if you feel pulsing in the lever when fanning it hard its probably the basket fingers are getting little wear ridges on the fingers the clutch plate fingers fit into. It will feel lumpy, I used a very fine file and smoothed them just a little based on advise from my mechanic friend and it helped.
I did install the new clutch plates anyway and now have a replacement set for when these ones really wear out, Ive got 30k on them and last fall when I replaced the cam chains I checked the clutch and they still look new, I think they'll last a long while unless you are really beating the crap out of it.
