Clutch jump starting possible with slipper clutch?
Hey guys,
Everything is fine with my bike, but I was just curious.
Is it possible to jump start a bike with a slipper clutch?
I understand the idea/function of the slipper.. so I wanted to know.
I am guessing you can, since you see most race bikes w/o starters... etc.

I haven't and to my knowledge none has accomplished it... Sorry...
But If you do, lemme know, I'll gladly copy your work...
BTW Yes, you can most certainly push shart a bike with a slipper clutch... Infact it makes it a whole lot easier as a high compression engine isn't the most easy to turn over by a push start... limiting the torque gives you a headstart until it fires... Push starting a hawk isn't for the weak... It might have "low compression" compared to many other bikes, but it's got two monumentaly large cylinders... I have done it a few times, all of them I ended up decidedly tired...

If its like a back torque eliminator the Hayabus's have, you can. I do believe I bump started that thing a time or two. That said, I HATED that clutch with a passion. Getting a launch (is it the same for all slipper clutches?) even from a stoplight was a crap shoot as it grabs very abruptly. It was the only bike I would occassionally stall at lights, and at the drag strip it was scary as hell! Slip.. Slip... BITE-WHEEEEELIEEEEEEEE!!!!
Got rid of it in short order for a standard slutch (welded up the internals)

That's exactly what it is, altough a slipper clutch is a bit more refined (not much though)... Basicly it only operates if the rear wheel wants to drive the engine instead of the other way around...
