Headlight out Bike Won't Crank over!

This morning I had 2 wires short on the headlight connector. It looks like they were rubbing together and finally they shorted and blew the 20 amp headlight fuse. Once I figured out that the wires were shorted (several fuses later) I didn't have any more fuses to get the light to work. The bike wouldn't crank over either with this fuse blown. I was going to try to limp home without a headlight but the bike wouldn't start. i jumpered the fuse block with needle nose pliers and the bike started. Is it possible that there is a safety switch that won't allow the bike to start without the headlight working? As soon as the 20 amp headlight fuse was working the bike would start. Thanks for any help. Maybe someone can try this test on their bike.

Hi Montana,
Looking at the wiring diagram, it looks like that 20amp fuse leads to the starter switch, then brances out to the headlight and also the starter relay. I'd think you could pop the clutch to start it though.
