Fuel leaking from mufflers
Fuel leaking from mufflers
I cleaned my '98 SH with a pressure washer then ran it for about 10 minutes planning to ride the next day. It ran fine and everything seemed ok. When I uncovered it the next day I noticed a fuel leak underneath. After looking around I found it is leaking from a pinhole in the bottom of exhaust cans on both sides. It leaks with the bike not running and eventually leaked all the fuel out. What can be causing this? I kind of suspect either a stuck carb float or maybe the petcock needs rebuilt but would like some advice on whether it may be something else.
I have not had this problem. But to me, it would seem your are on the right track with float needle or petcock issue . Not sure if the super hawk is susceptible to hydro-lock, but be aware of that concern since liquid laying on top of the piston can cause damage during start up.
This has happened many a time to others on this forum. Memory tells me it's always one or the other, of the 2 issues mentioned. Whatever you do, do not thumb that starter! Remove plugs and inspect. If full, siphon out. Also inspect your oil as most times it leaks down past the rings and into the sump.
Wolverine is CORRECT... I rode my 2001 home from work... Stopped to top of the fuel tank for the Saturday morning group ride... Parked the bike at the front of the shop/near the door ... Shop floor is super clean...
Next morning .. Walked in , laid out the gear , noticed the smell of fuel in the shop, and liquid puddle under the 2001... Grabbed a pitbull stand, raised the bike. Inspection of oil glass... OVER full.
Pulled the drain plug.. oil, and fuel Fuel petcock had let loose.. Pulled the oil filter. Lifted the fuel tank and pinched off both fuel lines .. Secured all in the shop.
Took my father's 1998 (he passed away)
