Front cylinder not firing

Hi all,

My 97 vtr is not firing in the front cylinder. It backfires when I rev it at higher revs but not at idle at all.

I have checked the coil, plugs , fuel supply and vacuum hose, (in the right place!!).and the timing is correct.

It is driving me mad.

Any thoughts at all? If not I'm off to find a cliff to jump off.

Thanks

Yes. I have subsequently found that I fitted the carb mounting boot upside down😞

Now she's firing, but backfiring at low revs.

I adjusted the TPS sensor from 900 down to 517 without balancing the carbs, would this cause the backfiring??

Thanks 👍

TPS causing straight up backfiring, no. Most of the time guys comment on them being set real high from factory, like yours. These motors are known to carb fart on occasion. Get them properly balanced and tuned, that will help. Just above 500 is where mine seemed to feel best.
