First time pulling the front fairing off - Any tips?

Ok, I'm going to pull the front fairing off for the first time. I've got the service manual and know how to read and follow directions , but has anyone got any useful tips in doing this. I'm actually pulling the fairing to replace the top center portion of it. I'm replacing the stock yellow center with an 04 black piece, as a cosmetic mod.

Any hints or recommendations?

Thanks!

Yeah, take your time. It comes off all in one piece. Follow the manual. It's easy.

It's Easy once you do it first

-Take mirrors off
-remove the four mounting bolts
-remove the two plastic faterners on the under side. I just use a tiny eye glass screw driver and pop the center screw out instead of trying to unscrew it
-Use strips four strips of Duct tape on the painted area of the fairing toward the rear just behind the four screw fasterners to protect the paint from getting scratched on the screw brakets as you remove and reinstall it later.
-Reach in behind the head light and wiggle the head light connector off (there is no connector release on the main head light)

At this point all is disconnected save the little running light connector that you cannot get to until you pull the fairing part way off.

-Cover fender with a towel
-straddle the front fender and gently pry out the side fairings near the radiators and move forward around the radiators.
-At this point you are balancing the fairing and can reach around the wind screen and remove the little running light connector. Squeeze the connector release and just pull it out.

-Then just pull forward and remove the reast of the way off.

Nuff said, now sit back have a beer and admire the Honda ingenuity and the Naked VTR.

really, the only way to make it easier than it already is is to have someone there to remove the headlight connector. mine was hell to get off, it was on there really good. but if thats not the case, then its no problem.

Fortunately I'll have my better half with me. She's got 2 bikes of her own, so she's used to diving into the mechanics...Thanks

Just take the head light connector off first, plenty of room and you don't have to balance the fairing or need another person

Coming off is easy enough.

Take some time putting it back on as there's two lugs that slot into holes near the headlight mounting. These can sometimes miss and the fairing will seem to be on, but the mirrors and fairing bolts wont line up quite right.
