Exhaust pipe overhang; ????

Do you see the overhang inside the pipe after the collector and before the split into 2?
There is actually 2 overhangs; the collector overhang has been left untrimmed, even though Honda trimmed the angle inlet upstream; also, the overhang from the left exhaust(left one in the picture) has been bent downward by Honda.
Do you guys think that this was the intention so as to balance the exhaust flow between both pipes or was it just too much to worry about doing right at the factory?

I'm thinking of die grinding the overhangs out is why I'm asking.

I seem to remember that all you see was with intent by Honda and that removing the overhang / cleaning up the transitions is actually detrimental to proper flow. So, I wouldn't recommend making any changes without further research. If I can find where I read this, I'll follow-up here.

I agree;
it does look intentional.
matter of fact; if I was to clean up the overhangs and that messy weld area, it is clear that the exhaust stream would change drastically.

I seem to have quite a history of trying to improve something and then learning the hard way that there are much more qualified engineers who got paid to work this out..................

Still thinking this one out. I"d like to see what something like what Black Widow does in that area.

Not sure if this is what I'm remembering or not, but some interesting discussion and another thread linked as well.

After reading that thread, it seems pretty clear cut to me too.
I did have a look at the Black Widow pictures and that exhaust is very different; they use a symetrical X design.

Chalk another one up for Motorcycle Forums, even if I am late to the party by 12 years.

You're actually late to the party (and to the answer to this question) by @25 years lol, but welcome aboard.

Hey Captain Chaos;
Thanks.

Riding season here is so short though that I'm allowing myself a 50% grace period on uptake.

Haha no worries, I'm sure wherever you are it's worth it compared to sweating 11 months out of the year on flat South Florida roads littered with nothing but traffic and people on their cell phones.
