Engine sputters inconsistently under 4000rpm

My superhawk sputters inconsistently while cruising under 4000 rpm. The bike accelerates fine under open throttle but will not cruise at a constant idle without coughing. It'll be cruising and then cough quick once or twice and then continue to cruise. Its not all the time but frequent enough to annoy you. I think it sounds like something in the carbs is getting stuck. I have been through and cleaned the carbs multiple times, under the impression that maybe I missed something. It has d&d slipons which I don't think require re-jetting.. I'm curious if anyone has had a problem like this or has any ideas? Thanks

Welcome!

Did you sync the carbs after cleaning them?

The issue is in the pilot circuit.

Either the jets are dirty, there are 3 small holes inside the 1 small hole you can see drilled through the jet.

The other issue could be that you are running too lean on the pilots.
If the jets are clean, open the pilot screw 1\2 a turn.

. . .also make sure you sync the carbs. It makes a difference especially at low revs.
