dummy here! need help with kn and dynojet

hey guys ive probally asked this before but im a dumbaass. so heres my issue i have a dynojet kit on my bike currently with micron slipons. i also have a kn air filter that i want to put on. whats the settings on the jet kit that i need to do to help the bike run like a champ????

also whats the stock chain size? and would there be any good reason to get an x ring chain opposed to an o ring chain?

Thanks

Travis

btw im in new hampshire so im pretty close to sea level i dont know if that has any huge impact on the jets at all

Stock chain is 530. X-ring, W-ring, O-ring...they're pretty much all the same.

BTW, jetting also depends on altitude, so go with what gboezio said but subtract a jet size for every 1500-2000 feet above sea level.

ok update so the shop where my bike is at just called me and told me the dynojet kit i have does not come with the correct pilot jets and to make it it run properly they need to order the next size up or two sizes up... now this is news to me.. is this typical with the dyno jet kit????

I wasn't aware that the DJ kit required a pilot change. You may want to get them to double check (I live in Montreal, right at sea level, and my DJ kitted VTR had all the necesary parts for tuning and runs awesome). Mind you, I am running a stock filter. While some swear by the K&N's, others swear at them in teh case of the VTR. Do a search and you'll see what I mean (the shop that did my tuning counselled against it and I listened to them; all I know is my bike runs absolutely great with instant response and no flat spots anywhere). Either way, good luck in getting it sorted, it is worth the effort.

If the that shop is using a dyno/EGA to recommend your pilot jet change, then I would not argue with them about it. I myself did go up from the stock #45 to a #47 based on a dyno sheet...with the paper air filter and DJ kit setup by PO with needles in clip #5, the A/F miture was a bit lean(14.5~15) up to 4,200 RPM. Then it dropped sharply over the next 1000 revs to a rich 11.6 . I used this information, added a K&N, went up to the 47 pilots, and leaned out the needles just a bit. The improved riding experience was well worth the effort!!

With the primary jet, You try to get the bottom of the throttle in a manageable range and adjust the air screws to polish low end throttle response. Depending on influences such as altitude and modifications,
it is possible to tune it right with the 45's that you have.
Mine seems to do well with them, I have MIG pipes and a K&N. I am in Piedmont area of NC and ride the Blue Ridge mostly.

Also, if they are using an EGA ensure they have disabled the PAIR system prior to dyno.

Beerhunter, did you mean 48's instead of 47's? I don't think they make 47's.
