drive chain adjuster

My right side chain adjuster has play in it. The adjusting bolt has a fixed washer on the inside and the 8mm head with a circlip on the outside. On the chain side there is no play at all, on the right side there is maybe 1/8" of play.
Looks like the bolt head has worn or the hole in the adjuster has worn larger. The entire assembly is only about $25 -$25 but I was wondering if anyone else has ever seen this happen

The stock adjusters are utter crap... No other word for it... Try finding an aftermarket alternative, a few years back there was plenty of options... All with less freeplay and better accuracy...

Any ideas where we could look for alternatives? I tried to find something last year and came up empty handed. Disclaimer: I`m old and suck at the computer.

I started looking too, but found nothing. Maybe its more a case of maintenance - replacing with OEM when they start to have play. OEM parts are cheap. Not sure i would consider $100+ for better replacement even if i could find it.

i've had the same problem. I'm curious if Truckinduc would be able to fab up some quality replacements and offer them to the members of the forum. I've had no luck tracking down any decent replacements either.

In any event, i'll be keeping an eyeball on this thread, let me know if you guys find anything good!

just a little bit of google, and I found these on the first page. Search "vtr1000 chain adjuster"

http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/...0--616670.html

$188.99

That is for the RC51.. might still work on our bikes, but I don't know.

I saw them too, but too many inconsistencies - the fact that there is two models 00-02 & 02-05, that they do not include 98-99, couldn't find Gilles Tooling on the web and ultimately that they are $188, pushed me back to replacing with OEM.

That is because they are for the RC51.. it is called a VTR1000 SP1 and VTR1000 SP2 for those years. Our bike is a VTR1000F

In other words, it is not for our bike.

http://www.gillestooling.com/en/

Altough they apparently doesn't make adjusters for the hawk anymore...

The RC-51/SP1/SP2 one won't work as it's for a 25 mm axle and the hawk uses a 20 mm...
