Damage discovered around front sprocket ...

Was having a pleasant evening changing sprockets ... removed the front and discovered all this after cleaning the gunk off.

Weld repair is required... but how would you guys proceed in this situation?

To better phrase my question..has anyone come across this type of damage before? I’ve ridden about 15,000kms not knowing about this.. not sure how much longer it will last. Would the consensus be to repair/weld, or consider motor replacement?

I would say it all depends on how long you plan on keeping the bike. You have already put the better part of 10,000 miles on it the way it is with no problems. Doesn’t mean the case won’t self-destruct at some point in the future but I’m thinking it’s not going to if it hasn’t already.
put it back together and ride it and if you’re going to keep the bike maybe start shopping for a cheap engine that you can use for parts or as a replacement.

Thanks Xeris! A day after the disappointment that seems like the best approach. I’m going to shop for a motor/crankcase, and likely do a jb-weld temporary repair for now.

I’ve had the bike for a few years now and absolutely love it...and have also put a good bit of time and money into making it my own. It will need a major service at some point soon anyway; will just swap the motor then
