Engine Swap On A K1200LT - F**k This Thing & The People Who Designed/Engineered It!!!
Doing a motor swap on a 2005 BMW K1200LT that we picked up cheap. The motor came out easier than I thought it would, but it didn't want anything to do with going back in. Ended up having to drop the transmission and the rear end just to get everything to line back up. As you can see in the photo's, there is a TON of wires, hoses and a mountain of bodywork. Finally got the motor in after a few failed attempts before dropping the trans, good thing it only weighs 300lbs. Anyhow... the hard part is out of the way, now I have to remember how it came apart.
The old motor threw a rod and left some pretty impressive damage in the case (see photo).

Yeah, the worst part now is I'm leaving for California for a week, so the disassembly won't be fresh in my mind... and I don't have a shop manual for it. Not to mention there are a lot of electrical accessories that I have to reconnect as well...although some of it is getting 86'd.

I just finished to part out my 95 BMW 530i I ended up with 75 lbs of wires, tons of electronics boxes clearly identified (in German).
This over engineering at it's best, they make their vehicle too heavy, but they are just heaven to drive
