I mount tires every day and have the conti hyperattack on my bike and yes it IS on backwards and yes it IS dangerous. As stated above it can tear your tire up and more important it will suck rain into the middle instead of sheding it. Some rear tires it's not as important and the water is the only concern but not on the front do not mount backwards, so yes you should flip it.
