Clutch issue

I have just changed my chain and sprockets and during this I obviously had to remove the clutch master cylinder. when I came to replace the master cylinder I found that the cylinder did not sit back flush and I had to wind it in on the mounting screws. I now find that the clutch only just clears!! I have bled the clutch and got a slight improvement but still drags slightly.

Any ideas out there?

Greetings

Keep bleeding the clutch system topping up the reservoir little and often until all air bubbles are expelled. Avoid it in the future by tying back the clutch lever before removing the sprocket cover/clutch slave.

Post some pics of your bike as we like to see other VTRs!

Yeah keep bleeding it. Much harder than brakes since no solid resistance. You will get it eventually.

I found I only got it fully bled by loosening the banjo bolt at the lever (air bubbles rise). This was a small revelation for me

Or suck it through from the slave bleed with a large 50ml catheter syringe whilst topping up the reservoir.

I've also had luck pumping the lever a whole bunch with the reservoir cap off. It seems to free up bubbles caught in the master cylinder. This in combo with bleeding them.

A good tip is to pump the lever 5-6 times between holding and bleeding... That usually makes the bubbles travel a bit... Another is to bleed a bit, then tie the lever down to the handle and go take a break, have a coffee or whatever... When you get back, bleed the banjo, and you will likely find a huge bubble there, as the bubbles have collected in your break...

And next time, if you read the manual, it gives the great tip that Wicky did... Tying the handle makes the slave stay put and no bleeding is neccesary...

Hi Sorted Thanks!

Just Loosened the banjo on the lever, squeezed once and tightened while holding. Did the trick great.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

I wish I had the tie the lever trick when I did it. Another 2 hour 10 minute job.

Good on you then, highfly.....
