Clunking/Knocking

I was going to ask my mechanic about this in a couple of weeks when I go in to put on tires, chain, and sprockets, but I wanted to see if anyone had some thoughts on this. I have this clunking sort of sound that from what I can tell seems to be coming from the front sprocket area when I slowly pull away from stop lights. It has almost a horse gallop rhythm to it and seems to happen only after it warms up. Also I can feel it through the bike. Was wondering if perhaps I had some teeth missing on my gears or something?

First guess would be excessive chain/sprocket wear. I am sure someone here has had a similar experience.

I'm hoping that's it, cuz I already have all that stuff purchased! It seemed to stop if I overtightened the chain a little.
