Chain install

Ok, so I did a search and didn't find an answer.

I don't have a rivet tool, and would prefer not to buy one.

IF I have a shop cut the chain to length, and rivet the link in, can I install it on the bike.

Looks like I would just need to remove the left rearset, then put it over the swingarm and onto the front sprocket.

Am I looking at this correctly? Or should I have them cut it, buy the tool, and rivet it on myself.

As always, thanks.

L8RGYZ is an unknown quantity at this point
The rearset is held on by the swingarm pivot bolt. If the nut is on the left side of the bike I would think you could just pry off the cap & remove the nut. If not, you'd have to remove the pivot bolt from the swingarm (you'd have to support the bike & the swingarm to do this.)

Also, you have to take off the Clutch Slave Cylinder and then the Sprocket Cover to get to the sprocket. (We did my chain a couple weeks ago & afterwards had to bleed the clutch to get it to work again. This probably won't happen to you though.)

Or you could get a tool that should do it all for $20. I have one, but haven't used it yet. (We used my friends Motion Pro kit.)

It's made by DID so it's a top quality item (list price $120.00 per the DID website). Here's the link:

Thanks L8R. I looked on Bike Bandit at the schematic, and it looks like the head of the bolt is on the left side.

So I'll buy the rivet tool and do it properly.

Thanks for the heads up on the clutch slave cylinder.

if you plan on riding for some time the motion pro kit is a good tool to have around.

if you must... get a clip style master link & install that. then ride to a shop and have them put the rivot one on.
