CCT's ????

ok not being a mechanic, i see alot of talk of CCT's and the issues that arise from them. So help me out. What are they and how do i know they need to be swapped. i have an 02 SH with 11,500 miles on her. What should i be listening to or looking for in regards to CCT's. Be gentle

This post is just asking for someone to say "Do a Search!" ... but here's a nice gentle response.

CCT's are the Cam Chain Tensioners...

Here is a photo of a stock one from that thread.
(It's the long piece with two bolts right in the middle.)

This photo shows the back CCT, next to the shock. There is a second one above/behind the front cylinder and beneath the tank/airbox.

there is a lot of talk because of how much damage one does when it fails, and because of its hit and miss mileage fail rate. Its like a ticking time bomb that you have no idea how long the fuse is, but with out a doubt it will go off if left alone.

Like mentioned before they are cam chain tensioners and they keep the cam chains tight so they don't become loose and skip teeth on the Cam shaft sprockets which will in turn cause the bike to be out of timing. When they fail they can cause no damage and the bike to run poorly or can cause a catastrophic failure and take alot of money to repair the bike. For the 100 bucks or so and an afternoon in the garage the piece of mind you get from the manual ones is well worth the time and money. You don't have to be a mechanic to do it. Just make sure you understand the procedure and use the search function on the forum.
