Carburettor Boots
Carburettor Boots
Having battled with the erratic idling, and unsuccessfull carb sync, I tried something different tonite.
With the bike idling, I sprayed "Quick-Start", onto the rubber mounting boots of the carbs...Almost instantly the idling changed, slowed and the engine stalled.
So I assume one can conclude from this, that the boots are leaking?
Question is do these boots "seat" less well, after a few removals of the carbs, or pehaps develop "leaks" over time?
I don't wanna spend the money on new boots if there is a better solution.
Regards,
Gerrit

I had to replace my carb boots too. i sprayed carb cleaner on them and the and it changed on me too. i replaced the boots, sprayed it again, and the idle STILL changed. i re-checked and then even checked AGAIN that i installed them well.. perfect every time. but the idle still changed when i sprayed carb cleaner on them. my theory to this day is that when you spray them, the mist and vapor gets sucked in through the air box. i could be wrong... but there is NO way my boots are leaking. i also put a thing layer of grease on the inside of my boots for ease of installation and a better seal.
i am not telling you NOT to replace them, cause my old ones were hard too. but just letting you know how they reacted to the carb cleaner.
