carb problem...pls help!
hi, i have a big problem on vtr 1000f 1997, the motor does not idle smooth, when i try to accelerate it stops, and the sparkplugs turns to to black in the rear cylinder and in the front one it turns to white....i tried to sync the carbs and changed allready the plugs but it feels the same...i even measured the intake and exhaust clearance and they are good.......what sould i do next?....
the engine runs poor untill 3000rpm(when i can start it!), i cant get it over 3k....and i think the front cylinder runs more colder than the second one......f**k...so nice weather and i aint got no bike.....
What lead up to this? I assume it ran ok and then it stopped? Or is this a situation that the bike was put away and then when you got it out this is what you found?
What lead up to this is important - it will give us better ideas on where to start.

for diagnostic puorposes only, take out the air filter, and see if the bike runs. If it is better, you need to clean or replace the filter. If still bad, put back in the old plugs and see how it runs...

Also sounds like a big vacuum leak on the front cyl. but might even be the petcock vacuum line. So hard to trouble shoot on line..... and I personally hate those K&N filters...... took mine out and gave the POS away....
+1 I agree that it may be jetted wrong, but it need to be running first. A jet problem generally does not get worse so I would look for a vacuum leak also. Spark & Fuel. If you ae sure the spark is there then it has to be fuel...
hi again.....i got it!!!....after dismounting and cleaning the carb, checked again the valves, the vacuum and all the other stuff I finally got it.....the hose which goes to the fuel valve under the tank had a small crack in it, and from there all the trouble.....false air firing and normally , not enough fuel for my hungry beast ........such a small thing and such a big headache .......some times we can not see the tree in front of us because we have a forest in our eyes....any way, thanks u guys for all the help.....
It is always a big relief to find that the problem is something so easy to fix! I changed the vacuum line a couple years back since it was becoming hard and showing signs of imminent failure (cracking). Sometimes a temporary fix with vacuum/fuel lines can be done by cutting off the end which has permanently expanded, if there is enough length left to work with.
