Can't start my VTR after long trip

First of all hello to all! I'm a new member , live in Belgium and recently (2 months ago) bought a VTR1000 '03 with only 12000 miles. In great condition untill last week.

After the long trip she got back in the garage, wanted to start her the next morning....batt dead , not even a single dashboardlight....

Hooked her up onto the charger for a night....charger says batt in good condition.

Now when i want to start i get this strange sound : "Trrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" every time i press the start button. "Trrrrrrrrrrr" First i thought it was the startermotor/gears , but apperently it comes from under the seat. More i think that big black box or the Regulater im not sure.

Any of you fellow riders experienced something like this, the sound may give away the problem i hope.

Similar symptom. Daytona bike week and a trailer ride home.

Failed battery caused by a faulty (over voltage) regulator/rectifier. You might want to check the resistance of the three leads coming from the stator, should show all the same value.

New battery and upgraded R/R unit fixed it for me.

Jump the starter relay. If the starter spins, you need a new relay. If you need
more instructions on how to, PM me.

Check battery connections also. A loose positive will cause the relay to click repeatedly.
