Birds in my motor?
Birds in my motor?
Question, has anyone experienced a squeaking\ chirping type sound while accelerating? From a stop and even while moving turn the throttle and there it is. Im guessing it has something to do with the gears? Also, my throttle has about A 1/4" of play in it. How do I go about tightening that up so it has no slack? Thanks

Each throttle cable(push/pull) has an adjustment lock nut on it. There must be some slack left in it to prevent false high idle. How much slack to be left is rider preference. Never heard chirping noises on a SH before.
Wonder if it's the clutch. Almost from day one mine has made a noise & even slips a bit when doing a really hard start while slipping the clutch. I run pretty hard, but I rarely do drag race-type starts, so it's not a problem. I also don't use a motorcycle-specific oil, so that could be what causes it.
If you take up too much slack the throttle will stay on; if so just back the adjustment off a bit.
If you don't have enough adjustment to take up the slack, then you have to adjust the cables at the carbs. Pretty much the same deal, but harder to get to.
I'd suggest getting a Haynes or factory manual. Either one is great for learning to do basic stuff on your bike.

I've never heard the noise caused by improper CCT adjustment, but some have said it was a high-pitched whining if my memory is correct. You may want to check and see if you have an aftermarket CCT(which can be backed off a bit) or OEM. If you can talk to previous owner if you just got it, you may learn if it was changed/adjusted.
Hopefully its not the pistons binding in the cylinders, lol.
New 911 motors can do that when 1st started after rebuilding when theres air in the oil lines since a 911 engine is a dry-sump motor.
If a superhawk is making this sound because of poor lubrication, or improper rebuild,
its probably pretty bad.
Hopefully the chirping is some kind of vaccuum leak.
