bike runs better when its cool
real funny thing, i was out yesterday and it was nice and warm finally and i had to pull the choke out here and there to get the bike to run smoothly. havent had time to dig into the carbs yet to fatten them up. so anyway the bike would clean right up when i pulled out the choke and would run really nice. and then into the evening it cooled down a decent amount and the bike was running alot smoother, it wasnt hiccuping at high speeds and it felt really smooth and that was with the choke in. so why would a bike thats running lean in the warm weather run better when its cool?
Are you sure it's actually lean? This is conflicting...
Cooler means the air is denser ie more air into the engine... So if it's actually rich, that would explain why it's running better in the cooler air...
But, the "choke" on the VTR is actually an enrichment circuit... So the bike running better with that out says it's lean...

See that's what had me confused aswell. Cruisning on the hiway at aboiut 65 mph in the heat it surges and I have to pull the choke and she cleans up. But in the cool air it ran so much smoother with no choke. And as you said it should be leaner which threw me right off. How much of an impact do engine temps have on the this? The bike stayed around 85 degrees C through out the day which is cool for it. I didn't get a chance to really get on her hard in the cooler evening I was wearing a dark visor and visibilty got a little low. Didn't think we'd be out all day so I didn't bring the clear one. But she definatly cruised a lot smoother. I need to get this thing onto a dyno with a wideband and get this sorted out.
The carbs were setup when it was something like 10 degrees out, I think around 50 F and the tps was way out like 818 ohms and the bike ran good just not mid range where the tps would cause surging. So I adjusted the tps and I still need to bring it down and we figurted for sure she'd richen up in the heat but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Would turning down the tps cause the bike to lean out at all?

ok, it went bac to running lean, it was cool out last night and it was acting up again. the bike must have just been in a good mood the other night when the temps changed and decided to run good.
