I got mine last week, but haven't installed them.

have some questions:
1.Is it necessary to take off the folks?
2.Is it necessary to replace the folk oil?
3.If don't take off the folks, how to replace the folk oil?
4.What weight oil shall I use?

Anyone has the answers?

Most any Saturday is good. No beer though, I never mix riding and drinking at any level. I hear it should be almost 60 next Saturday...

3) you have to take em off4
4) I think they recommend 10 weight.

1. Taking your forks off makes the process much easier.
2. If it's new oil, no. But most likely, it's not new.
3. See #1.
4. 5 to 8wt.

Ah. Got beat to it. GG YamaRocket

How do you take off the springs out without taking the forks out?

Unscrew the fork caps, allow the fork to collapse slowly (this is where the jack comes in handy) reach in and pull out the springs, spacers and washers.

I ordered them right from Racetech. Took less than a week to get them.

If they are Racetech Springs, they come with the spacer and instructions. PVC and washers for the spacer will run you about a buck at Home Depot.

The spacer is simply a seam-welded steel tube that's not much thicker than a tin can. It's nothing special. Either way, you have to cut it to size.

Thanks for all you answered my questions.
You are very nice.

I took a ride yesterday, the original folks works great if the road surface is good, otherwise, they will too easy to bottom.
I will do the replacement this weekend.

Re: Is anyone happy with the stock fork springs?

There were some modifications to the last-gen Hawks (such as mine with the voltage regulator fins) ie. 2003-2005. Were there suspension changes? Everyone seems annoyed with them for some reason.

I've had a few sportbikes: Katana 600 sport "cow", Ninja 250R and 500R. SHawk's never bottomed-out on me, and handled some really cool sweeps at 140mph. I weigh 180. The other 3 bottomed-out at one time or another.

I ride moderately aggressively. Shrug.

I have an 05. I weigh #195. I had to take some preload out to get the proper sag. Now it rides a lot better. I set the rear shock preload on 2nd notch too. Not many twisties around here though. I am happy with the ride and handling.

I looked at the SV too as the local shop sells both. I couldn't pass up on the last year for the Superhawk though and really like the titanium color. I got it for $1000 off list out the door.

I mean the 2nd step from the lightest setting on shock preload. It came set on the 3rd step.

I fitted progressive rate springs in mysons VTR he now thinks its awesome soaks up small bumps great, no bottoming out etc, but really kick in when cornering hard or braking like your life depends on it.

I was looking at the same bikes and came away with the same deal as you. 8)
