Anybody have a Powerlet?

Going to add a power outlet to the VTR to charge cell phone / iPod & wanted to know if anybody has one of these? If so, what type did U get? Wanted to mount where it wouldn't interfere with leg or having to run cable under my *** or hanging loosely on the side.

See link - this company looks like it makes a good product.

They do make a nice product. I've got one on the 919.
The disadvantage is you will have to purchase a seperate adapter that fits whatever you are powering. The powerlet outlet is not a standard cigarette lighter size.

The advantage is they lock in nice and tight, won't intermittently disconnect from vibration, are fused, and they also offer a cool battery tender adapter.

The only way around this is to use their "cigar option" adapter, which is the same size as a standard cigarette lighter outlet. But if you're going to do that just get a fuse and a regular adapter cheaper at an auto parts store.

Yeah, wow $144? Kinda shocking for providing 12volts and not being a standard cig lighter size.

Like those guys said, I used cig lighter extension cords (autozone, wally) on all my bikes. Everything plugs right in (gps, ipod, cel)and I can plug the charger right in overnight.

Next gotta put one in my Givi topcase to charge stuff out of the elements. But for $6 I can afford to put them anywhere.

Wow, 5 year old thread but... I do use the Powerlet cigarette socket like this. The lead going to the battery also gives me a place to plug in my tender. I zip tied it to my faring stay. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I don't mind spending a little extra for a high quality product. Kind of like the Eastern Beaver harnesses, you get what you pay for. Just my opinion...

But if you pay 24 times more and have STILL dont have a universal plug, you are paying more and getting less.

I get that they have the harley/ducati "never do anything yourself" market locked. My harleyducati friends love talking spend. I guess its like women and purses, I dont get that either.

I am more impressed by my machinist/mechanic buddy who builds discontinued parts for vintage racebikes. Pure genius.

I went similar route as Wolverine, except I bought the outlet offered by Battery Tender, I think it was around $20.00 can't remember exactly. But same concept, has the same "tender" connection to plug into the fused battery pigtail when not plugged into the charger.
Mounted it to the inside of the fairing, so it's fairly obscure.

most people I know do what you did. Cigg socket is way cheaper and easy to replace if on the road. The money saved is gas in the tank or for tools.

I didn't pay 24 times as much ($30) and I do have a universal cigarette socket (that is much more high quality than a walmart pos).
I wasn't trying to impress you..just showing people my set-up.

Everything I want to charge or power is USB... So I hard wired a USB port to the bike.. And now can plug in anything from my Ipod, Ipad, Iphone, USB powered /charged light and dozens of other USB powered things directly into a mico mounted plug, no bulky adapters needed.

Total investment was $5.95

The main thing I need to charge is the nav, which is a cig plug.

Yeah, well, um, I was in a transitory state.

I just put the cbr dash but didnt trust the temp yet so was running the aux coolant temp guage. Then of course needed ambient temp, and voltmeter/starting amp status. And then I didnt know how to set the dash clock so thus the watch, plus I kept rewiring so the clock was never right.

Plus need the ram mount for the gps, ipod holder to change songs on the fly. (have since added a volume wheel for use with gloves). So you see, everything is absolutely needed.

I have since trimmed it down. Looks real sano.
