This is common on many different types of bikes. you can try adjusting your shift linkage to help with this and give you a more positive upshift. Also, dont shift like a pansy ( sorry thats what i was told when i asked this question about my busa) My bike now does the same thing if i shift to lightly between gears. As for the adjusment i cant remember where i read it but it was somewhere on this forum and probably in the knowledge base. Good luck

I had this happen a few times when I first got it. It was almost impossible for me to do it trying. It was always accidental. Don't know why either. I'm interested though.

The Factory Pro shift improver kit (around $80 iirc) with this on my bike... its just a redesigned lever with a ball bearing wheel and a new spring (not the more expensive EVO shift star kit)

Smile False Neutral

Its funny this came up. With the 919 I had I found in a forum somewhere that it would have a false neutral between 5th and 6th about the same time it was due for an oil change. Believe it or not I found that neutral one time in 7500 miles and it was right at oil change time the first time.
So, you might try changing the oil if it has been a while before shelling out the $$$

Just my 2cp

As said above, make a more positive upshift to avoid false neutral.
Honda transmissions seem to be prone to hitting false neutral, as my 2 previous Hondas would do the same when I shifted "lazy".
