tubular bars for the hawk?

i'm thinking about making a set of adapters for my bike
that would allow me install 7/8" tubular bars. the reasons
are to allow for some adjustment, and to dampen the vibes
a little.

i make these for the gpz and kawasaki concours:

i was wondering if there'd be any interest in something
like this from the superhawk masses......?

Something like the AS clamp here: http://www.spieglerusa.com/cfm/sbk.cfm

If it was cheaper and didn't require fairing cutting, I'd be interested. Maybe make a 1-1/8" bar kit too.

if i did it, the price would be in the neighborhood of the
kaw adapter/bar clamps......$120 give or lake a little.....then you'd
buy whatever bars work for you.....

if there was fairing cutting invovled, i wouldn't be interested
either.....

Sounds like a winner to me. Any chance you could do an option for 1-1/8" bars? If not, no big deal.

I was just looking into the possibility of modeling those up and having them machined. What's your background/experience with that stuff? I'm an M.E. but I typically do the analysis (mostly aerospace and sporting equipment) and not so much modeling unless I have to correct something.

just depends on if i think they'd sell. i don't have a problem making
whatever people want, but i do this for a living and have to sell at
least a few to keep mama happy.....

i just like the 7/8 bars because there's more choices in bends....

my background? i started working in a machine shop right out of
highschool. went to a bunch of tech schools and taught myself to
program cnc equipment. did mostly aerospace and mold work for about 20 years....then i bought a few machines and a shop and started making
molds and custom gun parts for 1911 pistols....made stuff for my bikes
in my spare time and decided that was more fun...and i could write things like v-stroms, xr650s, and superhawks off as buisness equipment....

Excellent! I might have to talk to you about 1911 stuff if I get a chance to shoot mine again anytime soon.

I sent you a PM, but it might be good for general info too... what would be the estimated time to market on a kit like that?

I'm trying to decide if I should just go down the road of getting another triple clamp and fabbing something myself or wait for a kit that doesn't make me recoil from the price (LSL's).

i will have the machines set up already....maybe a month from now...?

If you decide to go that route, Motion Pro can make custom extended Throttle cables for you. I had a set made for and SV650S that i converted to Bars from Clip-ons. I think it was around $60 for the set of cables. I supplied the additional length over stock length to them and they made them perfect.

Those will either re-route or need to be extended. It's the left and right control wiring that you really need to look into.

search superbling in the modifications forum. He has a write up for putting superbike bars on his Hawk.

It just involves buying bar mounts and drilling the top triple clamp

I have done it as have several other members.

the stock brake hoses just fit. The throttle and wiring both fit just fine.

I'm now going to a higher bend. This requires new brake lines.

One caveat is the the fork tubes project above the triple clamp. This limits how far forward you can pivot the new bars before they hit the fork tube.
