very cool pictures of the finished product as well - thanks for posting those. How hard is it to learn to do a valve job? I have an 1100F (83) that apparently does respond pretty well to porting, with some standard recs for where to clean up. I even picked up a trashed head to play around with first.

I hope those work out for you. Mine didn't and JE were total dicks and wouldn't take them back. I got the royal screwing in the rear end on that deal. They are never getting another dime of mine, that's for sure. Jerks. But I'm not bitter....

Have you tried Webcams? They still have VTR cams listed in their catalog. The specs are even a touch more radical than my Yosh cams, but it's hard to say without seeing the actual lobe profile. The spec sheet numbers don't always tell the whole story. Even so, I'm sure the Webcams parts are good.

I would expect the paistons to run on the high side of the skirt clearance tolerance. Honda bored these engines on the high side and JE made the pistons on the low side.

That's what I was told to expect, and it was my experience with two engines.

Here's my basic porting setup. It is two different grits of adhesive cartridge rolls, a long 1/4" mandrel and a 90 degree die grinder. Control the speed with a regulator and kee the roll moving in and out - do not dwell.

Bill,
This is what you need for cutting valve seats - and some practice.

I'm selling this set for $200. they are about $450 new. I have another set. **SOLD**

Thanks Rand, you da man!

Also, I had the JE Piston skirts coated which should help with a build up of 0.0005" on the skirts...RC

Pistons are in! No rings though...should I order a new set of factory rings or hunt down JE Piston rings to match pistons?

Nevernind on the the rings questions, JE Pistons website says to use OEM rings so I suspect they figured they couldn't make them any better

Just a thought I know the JE pistons are forged I dont know if the honda ones are cast or not.
forged pistons will expand more than cast untill they reach operating temp that may be why the JE's are on the lower side of the spec.

Skirt,"Tuff Skirt is a JE Pistons' trademark coating that is a lubricating, anti-friction / anti-wear coating applied to the piston skirt only. Unlike our standard Skirt Coating, Tuff Skirt will not wear and is designed to withstand many different types of endurance applications, similar to those commonly found in NASCAR. Buildup is .0005" per surface and finished diameter of skirt should include the coating buildup."

Crown,"The thermal barrier crown coating is applied to the top of the piston and is designed to reflect heat into the combustion chamber, thereby increasing exhaust gas velocity and greatly improving scavenging potential. The .0015" thick coating can also assist in extending piston life by decreasing the rate of thermal transfer."

Compression = 11.5 : 1

With the compression ratio of 11.5:1 are you going to have to run premium?

Yep, I figure that 93 octane will be required especially after dropping in the Moriwaki Stage 1 cams

Has anyone here installed these pistons before?? I would like to know what HP increase these would give. I imagine Tq numbers would jump considerably.

Yup.
They do.
Full Stage 1 build with all of the incremental changes gets close to 120 HP with a good full exhaust system.

Yes, rick you will use good Honda rings.

Do the stock honda rings need to be dressed to prevent ring flutter, or are they fine?

Be careful, in the past we have had problems with JE pistons in cylinders bored for stock pistons. Where did you find the Moriwaki cams, I'm looking for some Moriwaki parts?

The ring grooves are designed for OEM rings.
