Stunting my VTR

just wondering if anybody has any info on turning my 98 VTR into a (not street legal) stunt bike. i need info on cages (might make my own, but any info is helpful), 12 o-clock bar, etc. HOWEVER, the most important question i have is about the oil sender unit! if im up in a wheelie for 20 minutes straight, i need to re-route the oil lines so the front cylinder is not starved. wondering if anybody has done any mod's to correct this problem, or if any mech's have any idea how this could be done. i am thinking maybe just plug the current oil sender line, and drill a new whole in the back of the crankcase, and just thread the oil line to there. THANKS for any help you guys can give me!

Hi, you can try Elmo at www.ozfirestorm.com, previously known as VTRStunter who stunted a firestorm for a while : )

not to come off as an a$$hole, but stunting is gay

if you want to stunt, sell your VTR and buy something else, an I-4 with fuel injection would be a nice place to start.. hard stoppies tend to flood out the front cylinder, killing any attempt for a nice follow up wheelie, plus it's just terrible to treat a superhawk like that... indeed, the torque and upright riding position make it a nice hooligan bike, but c'mon now, it's stuff like this, that will get all of our bikes outlawed someday... dont get me wrong, stunts under controlled conditions (i.e. OFF STREET) are fine.. but you will get no pity from me when your body is pulled from inside the car you just slammed into, who's occupant is some legislator that's going to make it their personal mission to outlaw our way of life...

he said he wanted to turn it into a stunt bike, (not street legal) as he says.

im guessing he is going to only stunt it in closed off areas...

i know alot of people who make a living stunting. i dont think there is any reason to bitch him out like that.

You dont need to mess with any oil lines. Just overfill the oil by about a 1/2 quart. You'll be able to wheelie all day, 12's, no problems. Also try an engine treatment available from fullthrottlerider.com. Cages and 12 bars are a little more tricky. Freestyle Ingenuity doesnt make em yet, but WILL in the very near future - keep checking their website www.freestyleingenuity.com. The only problem you'll run into is if you can roll stoppies out high and long. The front cylinder floods out and stalls the bike... no solution to that problem... Thanks to WheelieSteve from ItTakesTwo Freestyle for most of this info.

So how long can a wheelie be done on this bike before the front cylinder runs out of gas? I've witnessed a 1/2 mile myself.

The "front cylinder getting starved" is a myth. The oil pump pressurizes all journals the same. The rear cylinder journal is just as likely to fail due to loss of oil pressure.

My friend is pretty sure that he has killed multiple TLR motors because of extended wheelie-ing, and I think that's because of oil. But up there JJ said, "The front cylinder floods out and stalls the bike." I guess I read it wrong the first time, too.

Why would the front cylinder get flooded?

The front cylinder floods out doing long ENDOs. Not wheelies. Why? Take a look at the front cylinder (and carb), and picture it rotated about 60 degrees forward, like it would be in a balanced stoppie. Its horizontal, or even below. Fuel accumulates in the carb due to gravity and floods it out.

Ah ha! I guess I need to work on my reading comprehension skills.

Well, at least I'd much rather flood out doing a stoppie than a wheelie.

this is bryantmvtr......

sorry i havent been on in a while. i was shot. twice.
that's right, i said i was shot. and it wasn't because of wheelie-ing past someone with a gun. just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
so any riding is postponed for me for a while!
but the hawk...i killed it. (in an unrelated incident) bent forks, cracked the swing arm AND rear wheel, put a hole in the right side engine case. so i dont know what to do with it, it's in about a thousand pieces in my garage. i might put pistons, valves, cams, and the hole she-bang, but that is only if i can make sure the frame is still straight (any ideas? there is no one in my state that is actually licensed to do that)...
either way, in a couple months i am getting a 929. and i will still be killing the streets.
but anyway, as for the hawk, when i was still stunting it: i had a wheelie for about 2 miles, at approximately 75 mph. just to be on the safe side, i checked the oil about twice a week, and with how much stunting i was doing, i would burn thru that extra half quart about once a week. as for the front cylinder being starved in a stoppie; my bike usually died every time i tried a longer endo (until i learned how to keep the throttle on and pull the front brake). but i talked to willis at ozstuntbikes.com, and he said something about turning the drain for the float 180 degrees. or something along those lines, i am a little slow right now. obviously vicodin is a wonderful thing.

as for you, jonnyrocket: UP YOURS. i will still (probably always) stunt on the streets. i might have a higher chance of getting into a wreck, but chances are, it will still be the other drivers' fault. even if it does happen, i'm not asking for anybody's pity. especially from someone as closed minded as you.......plus, it's my bike, and i'll use and abuse however i want.

JohnnyRocket is not the only one on this board with that opinion. I don't think stuntin is gay. I think stuntin on the street is idiotic! That's fine though. It's your insurance, your money, and your life. Problem is it's OUR reputation. That's what bothers me. Keep it in the parking lot or at the track, IMO, and don't expect to ever ride with me.

Stunting for a -living-? More like stunting for a -dying-. I guess if you got $9200 to blow for kicks and a sweet medical plan, go for it.

i didnt want to ride with you anyway, hawkrider. and as for me ruining your reputation? stop being a baby. (wish i could say what i really want to say.) it is my $, life, etc... (i still havent gotten a ticket or wrecked on the street, so :-p !) i am not making anybody else look bad but myself. but i guess most people are like you and make the assumption that if one person is doing a wheelie, all people riding bikes are doing wheelies and other illegal things (even those 2000 pound harley cruisers...its possible!), so we (ie: lawmakers) should outlaw all bikes. when that day comes, ill be the first one to protest, so dont worry. your precious riding on two wheels will always be protected (at least until we run out of oil.)

!one wheel is still funner!

open your eyes. look up some real stunters. (ie: not me. im not that good) www.teamoutermost.com www.servinitup.com www.darius240z.com www.kaneone.com www.bullogotblox.com www.roadrashchic.com www... and that is just the few off the top of my head (not including their many sponsors, that have made their living off stunters: making cages, 12 bars and oil pickups) people have been killing the streets for a while now. and it's not going to stop. if one person dies, goes to jail, or whatever for doing a wheelie, someone is going to take their place.
