Shifter Fix

So I laid her down the other day thanks to cold roasted race take offs and cold pavement at walking speed. It was a pretty sweet spin that I almost maintained control of except it wouldn't stop so I set her down easy but it broke the **** off my shifter. I'm probably just gonna drill it, tap it, and put a bolt in it with the stock rubber piece. Anybody else try this fix?

I did it, but I lost the stock rubber piece and just used a piece of rubber tubing. Been this way about 8 months and works just fine.

I've done this as well, with the stock rubber piece. It works (better then buying new).

It should work a long time. It's actually of much higher quality than the stock piece of pot metal.

I did this too while I was waiting for the replacement lever. It worked good. The stock item is somewhat expensive for what you get, but the bolt trick looks a little ghetto imho.

The other thing that I worry about is how strong it is. The origianl breaks off real nice like when it contacts the ground, the bolt won't. How much stuff is it going to ruin? I hope I don't have to find out.

The look of it doesn't bother me one bit, especially considering the price of a new lever. Nobody knows but me anyway.

I used an f3 shifter for a while waiting to find a good hawk unit. It is steel, a little longer, and the pivot is much wider than the hawk, so you have to use the f3 bolt.
I have found that there were 2 different hawk shifters, one with a steel adjusting rod, and one with a nice aluminum adjusting rod. I don't know which years are which, but the aluminum rig looks really sharp.
I have an extra complete spare steel rod set.

Just my thought, too. If your bikes lays down on the left side again, this one won't break. But it might waste the footrest... A bolt with 215kg on it... has got a force! You better don't try...

If a steel higher equivalent grade bolt is used (I would use a stainless steel button head cap screw), grind a notch partially through it near where it enters the shifter lever arm on its bottom side so it snaps off there in a crash; similar to what is done with clutch and hand brake levers.
